“This is in response to Mark’s ‘Sunday with Sisson’ email about the beach.
I live in the Malibu area and hiked the 75-mile Backbone Trail with the Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council. During the week-long hike, members of the organization give lectures on local history and geography. This could be mentioned on the MDA blog as well, but I learned that there is a “Seaweed Strait” and people may have followed from Russia across the Bering Strait and the Pacific coast. The idea is that the seaweed creates a stable environment for fish so it is an easy path for people to follow.
I remember Mark talking about how we process fish very well and that a steady supply would create the conditions to support the development of our large brains. I suspect that we are built to feel at home and at peace in our niche near water. “
