The Results of Turmeric on Infertility

As we get older, there is more pain and inflammation in our body. Certain foods, particularly those in the fruits and vegetables category, have been shown to help fight inflammation and disease. One spice that has recently been highlighted is turmeric, which is commonly used in Asian foods, especially curry.

Turmeric contains curcumin, a polyphenol that is responsible for its anti-inflammatory properties. It is an antioxidant that fights free radicals in the body that cause inflammation, disorder, and disease. It has also been shown to relieve pain and improve metabolic conditions, arthritis and hyperlipidemia, and may benefit the kidneys. Some research has shown that curcumin can relieve muscle soreness and improve performance and recovery in active individuals. Curcumin has also been shown to have anti-cancer effects, and according to the American Cancer Society, curcumin intake has been linked to decreased cancer growth and shrinkage of tumors in laboratory animals. Finally, another study showed that turmeric taken with ginger can improve male reproductive function, including sperm motility and increased testosterone levels. However, further research is required to validate the results.

Curcumin can be difficult to absorb as only 3% of the curcumin from the spicy turmeric is absorbable, but it also occurs in supplementary form. It is best absorbed when the capsule contains piperine, a compound found in black pepper. It’s also more effective when combined with turmeric oil and other antioxidants. The recommended dose is 500 mg of curcumoids per day to help reduce inflammation. While nothing is a wonder pill, curcumin has been around for centuries and it is used extensively in traditional and Ayurvedic medicine. Extensive research studies show that it reduces inflammation and thus helps reduce disease.
